NWHL Bubble Diaries: Day 5

Well, this is not how today was supposed to go… In the fifth day of action in the NWHL bubble in Lake Placid, we were supposed to see Buffalo take on Metropolitan in the 5:30 game and the Whale take on the undefeated Whitecaps in the second game of the night but as of 3pm, all NWHL games scheduled for Day five have been postponed.

The Metropolitan Riveters have had to withdraw from the NWHL bubble season after multiple members within the Riveters organization have tested positive for COVID-19. Fans of the team and the league as a whole realized that there was something going on behind the scenes when Metropolitan had to reschedule their Wednesday night game against the Buffalo Beauts due to the NWHL medical policy, leaving the second game of day four being played between the Beauts and the Six.

As expected, the Riveters’ players are heartbroken not to be able to continue in the bubble after putting up an impressive 2-1 record in their first three games. According to Riveters’ head coach, Ivo Mocek, the team is disappointed that they cannot continue in the bubble action but are in complete agreement with the NWHL’s COVID-19 policy.

The NWHL and the Riveters organization have assured their loyal fans and supporters of the league that all of the players and team personnel will be brought home in a safe manner that ensures the safety of all involved. The players and team personnel from the remaining five teams are all exerting the utmost caution in Lake Placid to ensure total safety for everyone involved.

The NWHL will follow COVID-19 regulations and exert an abundance of caution by postponing all of tonight’s games and will return to the ice on Saturday, January 30th at 12:30pm. Be sure to come back to Unbenched in the coming days to catch up on all of the NWHL bubble’s action.
