Beijing 2022 Women’s Hockey Recap: Day 4

The fourth day of women’s hockey had only two games but they made up for the quieter schedule with the excitement they both had.

China 2 – Japan 1

Group B

China and Japan brought us our first shootout of the tournament after a 1-1 game.

Akane Hosoyamada scored late in the first period for Japan. They were able to hold China off for the duration of the second period but just a minute into the third, Baozhen Hu (Madison Woo) tied things up.

Overtime solved nothing so to the shootout they went. In the shootout, both teams remained scoreless until Le Mi (Hannah Miller) stepped up and scored on Nana Fujimoto. Japan was unable to respond and China took the win 2-1.

Switzerland 0 – United States 8

Group A

USA’s offensive dominance continued in this game, scoring eight goals against the Swiss. Hilary Knight, Jesse Compher and Kelly Pannek each put up two goals. The USA’s other two were scored by Dani Cameranesi and Amanda Kessel.

Team USA outshot Switzerland 66-12. Knight led the way with nine shots on goal. Alex Cavallini left with the USA’s second shutout of the tournament.

Here’s the schedule for Day 5:

ROC vs Canada – Group A

Denmark vs Czech Republic – Group B

China vs Sweden – Group A
