The Boston Pride defeated the Connecticut Whale 4-2 to become back-to-back Isobel Cup Champions on Monday night.
The Premier Hockey Federation’s (PHF) Isobel Cup Final took place at the Adventhealth Center Ice Arena in Wesley Chapel, Fl. which was filled with fans from both Boston and Connecticut that made the drive south.
Pride captain, Jillian Dempsey, scored first to give Boston a 1-0 lead, four minutes into the game. After a few close calls, the teams headed to their locker rooms all tied up, with the equalizer coming from Amanda Conway, three minutes before the period ended.
The Whale took a quick lead in the opening moments of the second period with Taylor Girard scoring 33 seconds after the puck dropped. Soon after, the Pride killed a five-minute major penalty for cross-checking, and the team was able to end the period unscathed and only down by one.
Evelina Raselli scored the tying goal seven minutes into the third period, which was followed 17 seconds later by Taylor Wenczkowski netting another goal to put the Pride up 3-2.
The Whale fought hard, pulling their goalie Abbie Ives in the final minutes to push for the equalizing goal but with 90 seconds to go, the Pride scored in an empty to secure their third Isobel Cup and second in two seasons.
